Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG – Robotically)

The great majority of bypass operations – 99% – are performed through a sternal splitting incision, which allows full access to the heart. This is required for all multi-vessel bypass operations.

With patients who have smaller and fewer blockages, it is possible to perform the bypass through very small incisions in the left area of the chest, between the ribs, with the da Vinci Surgical System, averting the need for sternal incisions. Such operations are often performed without the bypass machine.

Robotic surgery allows for a much swifter recovery for patients: on average, two weeks instead of two months. Again recovering patients experience less pain, require fewer transfusions, and have decreased risk of wound infection.
